Safety and health issues unique to farmers, their families and employees provided the impetus for the National Farm Medicine Center. Established in 1981, the center was a natural outgrowth of the ongoing research and clinical care at Marshfield Clinic in rural central Wisconsin. Now in it's 31st year, the Farm Center has had decades of experience treating agricultural populations. NFMC Director Matthew Keifer, M.D., M.P.H., is an Occupational Medicine Physician, Senior Research Scientist and Dean Emanual Endowed Chair.

AgriSafe - Dr. Keifer works with the not-for-profit AgriSafe Network to set up courses that train Wisconsin physicians, nurses and other health professionals in the specialized treatment and prevention of agricultural illness and injury.

FARM Clinic - Dr. Keifer helped to establish the FARM (Farm, Agricultural and Rural Medicine) Clinic in the Marshfield Center's Occupational Health Department. He provides consulting services on pesticide exposures, agricultural respiratory and allergic conditions, musculoskeletal disorders affecting the ability to farm and resulting disability issues, complex workers' compensation and other conditions arising from agricultural exposures.
