CCEPH Scientist Accepted into the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) Patient Assessment Committee (November 2024)
CCEPH Researcher, Heather Rhodes Ph.D., was recently accepted into the AAST Patient Assessment Committee that is involved with collaboratively creating national regulatory guidelines in trauma and acute care surgery with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. This committee will be tasked with revising organ injury scales, as well as creating webinars and lunch sessions for surgical and acute care education. They are also actively working on guidelines for splenic injury management and will be starting up with mangled extremity in the next few months.

CCEPH Investigators Attended the Options for the Control of Influenza XII Conference in Brisbane, Australia (October 2024)
CCEPH Researchers, Edward Belongia M.D., Huong Nguyen Ph.D., Joshua Petrie Ph.D., and Maria Sundaram Ph.D., attended the Options for the Control of Influenza XII Conference in Australia, Sep 29th - Oct 2nd. For the 2024 meeting, three abstracts were presented: Josh Petrie, Ph.D. presented results from a study of RSV infections over two years in a Marshfield community cohort of children and adults. Maria Sundaram, Ph.D. reported the risk of RSV infection in high-risk adults over five seasons. Huong Nguyen, Ph.D. presented vaccine effectiveness findings for the cell-culture based influenza vaccine (Flucelvax) during the 2023-24 season. 

CCEPH Researcher Presented Connect for Cancer Prevention Site Perspectives and Chaired Presentations on Planned Study Activities for the Upcoming Year and Participant Advisory Board Perspectives (September 2024)
Dr. Robert Greenlee joined Tammy EllisRoxy EibergenLiz Armagost, and one of Marshfield’s participant advisory board members, Peggy Buchda, at the Annual Connect Meeting in Rockville MD, Sept 18-20. Marshfield attended with 9 other Connect for Cancer Prevention health care organizations from across the county with the aims to recruit over 200,000 people aged 30-70 with no history of cancer.

CCEPH Scientist Presented RSV Vaccine Safety Study Results at June 26th CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) Meeting (June 2024)
James Donahue, DVM, PhD, presented results from the main Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) study at the June 26th Center for Disease Control ACIP meeting. Congratulation to Dr. Donahue, Dave McClure, PhD, Burney Kieke, MS, Kayla Hanson, MPH, Erica ScottyHannah Berger, MPH and the MCRI Vaccine Safety Team for leading the effort on monitoring RSV vaccine safety in older adults. The team will continue to monitor adult RSV vaccine safety through May 2025.

CCEPH Hosts Connect for Cancer Prevention Study Site Visit and Grand Rounds Presentation by the National Cancer Institute (May 2024)
MCRI hosted 3 representatives from the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics as they conducted a site visit for the Connect for Cancer Prevention Study. Connect is NCI’s new long term cancer prevention cohort study, and MCHS is one of just 10 participating health systems. The visit was capped by a Grand Rounds presentation on the Connect study by NCI’s principal investigator for Connect, Dr. Nicolas Wenzensen and MCRI Connect PI, Dr. Robert Greenlee. More information about Connect can be found at https://www.cancer.gov/connect-prevention-study/

Huong Nguyen PhD, Research Scientist with MCRI's Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH), shared her insight on the recent uptick in measles cases throughout the U.S. with local news station, WAOW. 

Dr. Jeffrey VanWormer Named Director of MCRI's Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (March 2024)
Congratulations to Jeffrey VanWormer PhD who recently accepted the position as Director of the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH) at the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI). He had been serving as the Interim Director for almost a year. 

CCEPH Scientist Honored as a Contributing Scientist for the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) (February 2024)
The Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH) is pleased to announce that their very own Research Scientist, Heather Rhodes PhD, was listed as an AAST Contributing Scientist Member. This is significant as she is one of only six scientists named by the AAST.

MCRI is Looking for Graduates and Undergraduates To Apply for the Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) (January 2024)
The Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) is looking for graduates and undergraduates who are looking for a career in research to join the Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP). Since 1974, MCRI has provided this opportunity for students looking to join this mentor-led program for 10 weeks each summer. The deadline to get the application in is February 9, 2024 for the 2024 summer program.
