CCEPH Epidemiologist Invited to Speak at WI Collaborative Clinical Research Professionals Conference (October 2022)
Thanks to the efforts of Diane Kohnhorst, Maria Sundaram, PhD, MSPH was invited to speak at the Wisconsin Collaborative Clinical Research Professionals Conference in October 2022. She spoke to an audience of clinical research professionals about the impact of COVID-19 on the clinical research workforce and the transitions it is currently undergoing.
CCEPH Researchers Present at Options Influenza Conference in Belfast, UK (September 2022)
Researchers from the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health at the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute traveled to Belfast, UK to attend the Options for the Control of Influenza Conference. Kayla Hanson, M.P.H., Jennifer King, M.P.H., Joshua Petrie, Ph.D., and Maria Sundaram Ph.D. presented their research findings at the conference. These findings included a broad range of topics including influenza vaccine effectiveness and COVID-19 booster effectiveness.
CCEPH Research Scientist Co-Wrote a Commentary on HPV Vaccination Hesitancy (July 2022)
Maria Sundaram, PhD, MSPH, and Robert Bednarczyk (Emory University) co-wrote a commentary in the Journal of Adolescent Health, advocating for a more nuanced and complex investigation of HPV hesitancy in U.S. Adolescents.
CCEPH Scientist Gives Keynote Speech at the Health Care Systems Research Network 2022 Annual Conference (April 2022)
Robert Greenlee, Ph.D., M.P.H., serves as the 2021-2022 elected Governing Board Chair of the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) www.hcsrn.org, and was invited to deliver the State of the Network plenary address at the annual HCSRN Conference www.hcsrnmeeting.org, held in Pasadena, CA from April 12-14, 2022. Dr. Greenlee also presided over the annual spring board meeting prior to the conference and the network award ceremony following his presentation. CCEPH Research Scientist Quoted in Washington Post Article (April 2022)
Maria Sundaram, PhD, MSPH, was quoted regarding communication about future outbreaks from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics. She states that the general public shouldn't have to have a degree to understand pandemic guidance and information about vaccine effectiveness.
CCEPH Scientist Invited to Speak About Pandemic Preparedness at the Boston University School of Public Health (April 2022).
Maria Sundaram, PhD, MSPH, was invited to the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) to talk about pandemic preparedness and prevention. She discussed what was gotten correct and incorrect about COVID-19 and was part of a panel of COVID-19 experts who discussed future pandemic preparedness.
CCEPH Researchers Publish First Paper on the Prospective Assessment of COVID-19 in a Community (PACC) Study (February 2022).
Edward Belongia, M.D., Huong McLean, Ph.D., David McClure, Ph.D. and Jennifer King, M.P.H., researchers for the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health (CCEPH), published their first paper looking at reduced vaccine effectiveness (VE) in SARS-CoV-2 variants.
Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) Offering Internship Program for Future Researchers (January 2022).
MCRI is once again offering the summer research internship program. CCEPH scientist Jeffrey VanWormer, Ph.D., will be heading up the program as Director. This will be a virtual mentor-led program running from May-August 2022. Applications are due by February 21st, 2022.
CCEPH Welcomes Dr. Joshua Petrie to the Team to Study Infectious Respiratory Diseases (January 2022)
Joshua Petrie, Ph.D., M.P.H., joined CCEPH at the beginning of January 2022 as an associate research scientist to study infectious respiratory diseases including COVID-19, rhinovirus and influenza. He became interested in infectious disease epidemiology while pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in biology with the intent to go onto medical school, then changed his focus to public health. Dr. Petrie's primary research goal is to figure out how often hospital-acquired respiratory infections happen across different viral strains.
