CCEPH Welcomed Back Dr. Maria Sundaram to the Team to Study Infectious Respiratory Diseases (October 2021)
Maria Sundaram, PhD, MSPH, rejoined CCEPH in early September 2021 as an associate research scientist to study infectious respiratory diseases such as COVID-19, influenza and RSV. She initially became interested in infectious disease epidemiology when previously working for the Center nearly 10 years ago.

CCEPH Researcher Added to Influenza Vaccine R&D Roadmap Taskforce (October 2021)
Edward Belongia, MD is a member of the Influenza Vaccine R&D Roadmap (IVR) Taskforce. Threats from seasonal and pandemic influenza persist in a world still battling the COVID-19 pandemic. The Influenza Vaccine R&D Roadmap (IVR) was developed by the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, with input from international influenza experts. The 10 year plan focuses on improving the production and effectiveness of strain-specific seasonal influenza vaccines and advancing research leading to universal influenza vaccines. Dr. Belongia serves on the taskforce that will monitor progress.

CCEPH Scientist Leads MMC Trauma Registry Study of Fatal Injuries (October 2021)
David McClure, Ph.D., a project scientist in CCEPH in collaboration with trauma surgeons from MMC had their study of trends of injuries and deaths from the MCHS trauma center recently published in WMJ-Wisconsin Medical Journal. Across the 3 eras of 2000-2005, 2006-2011, and 2012-2018 calendar years, the long-term trends of traumatic injuries and deaths were generally similar to national trends, particularly in the shift to older patients and in the increasing proportion of injury events due to falls.
