CCEPH Researcher Receives Funding from ICTR Collaborative for his Rural Health Project Regarding Antimicrobial Resistance (December 2023)
Joshua Petrie, PhD, Associate Research Scientist in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH) received funding for his study looking at antimicrobial resistance in rural and urban settings in Wisconsin. He received this funding through the Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (ICTR), a partnership between the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health. Dr. Petrie received this award along with two other recipients.

CCEPH Research Scientist, Heather Rhodes, PhD, Joins Team to Meet & Exceed Research Requirements for a Level 1 Trauma Center Designation for Marshfield (November 2023)
Heather Rhodes, PhD, joined the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health in early 2023. She is collaborating on research to move Marshfield Clinic Health System to get the Level 1 designation for its Trauma Center. To have Level 1 care in this rural healthcare system would be a great benefit and resource for its patients and surrounding areas. Dr. Rhodes strives to move this initiative in the direction of being certified Level 1 by Spring of 2026.

The Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health's (CCEPH) Researcher, Robert Greenlee, PhD, Co-Chairs Session at The Cancer Prevention Meeting (October 2023)
The Annual Connect for Cancer Prevention Meeting was held in Rockville, Maryland October 3-4 and CCEPH's very own, Robert Greenlee, PhD, Co-Chaired sessions identifying new approaches to pilot, recruitment and retention strategies and returning information to participants. Dr. Greenlee was joined by other members of his team, Tammy EllisRoxy Eibergen and Participant Advisory Board Member, Peggy Buchda. 9 other health care organizations from across the United States also participated in the conference.

The Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health's (CCEPH) Interim Director, Jeffrey VanWormer PhD, Honored as the Recipient of the 2023 Gwen D Sebold Fellowship (September 2023) 
CCEPH's own Interim Director, Jeffrey VanWormer PhD, was honored to receive the Sebold Fellowship for 2023. He was surprised by the Marshfield Clinic Foundation and a group of his peers in what he thought was a 1:1 meeting with a colleague last Thursday. The official ceremony will be held on October 11th in the Froehlke Auditorium in Marshfield. Congratulations Jeff!

Researchers from the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH) Participated in the ICTR Joint Research Day on May 19 (May 2023) 
The Joint Research Day event, sponsored by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), brought together researchers from the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) to discuss their research and find potential collaborative opportunities. The overall goal of ICTR is to create an environment that transforms research into a continuum, from investigation and discovery to implementation, while fostering collaboration.

The Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH) Hosted the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) Annual Meeting in Madison, May 3-4 (May 2023) 
CCEPH hosted the annual VSD meeting in Madison, WI, May 3-4. The meeting was attended by over 100 people from CDC and other participating sites. This was the first in-person annual meeting for VSD sites since 2019. The 2023 meeting provided a forum for teams to review ongoing research and plan for future studies.

Marshfield Clinic Health System is Enrolling National Cancer Institute Research Study in Weston to Inform the Future of Cancer Prevention (April 2023)
Marshfield Clinic Health System has started recruitment for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Connect for Cancer Prevention StudyTM (Connect) at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston. NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health. Connect is designed to explore the causes of cancer and learn more about how to prevent it. Marshfield Clinic Health System is one of nine health care systems across the country participating in this cutting-edge research. Together, these health care systems and the NCI seek to recruit 200,000 eligible adults over the next five years to participate in the study.

CCEPH Epidemiologist Heads Study Looking at Incidence of Severity of Snowmobile Injuries Over a 5-Year Period (February 2023)
The study was lead by CCEPH Epidemiologist Jennifer King, former CCEPH Epidemiologist Oluwatosin Olaiya and former Marshfield Medical Center Trauma Surgeon Daniel Cullinane, M.D. The study found 1,013 snowmobile-related injuries treated within the Marshfield Clinic Health System between 2013 and 2018 with 26% of cases hospitalized and 74% treated as outpatients. The average annual injury incidence rate was 313 per 100,000 snowmobiles registered.
