The Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH) is a Center of Excellence in Agricultural Disease and Injury Research, Education, and Prevention funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The UMASH Center is one of nine NIOSH funded Centers of Excellence in Agricultural Disease and Injury Research, Education, and Prevention throughout the United States. The center is a collaboration of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and College of Veterinary Medicine, the National Farm Medicine Center of the Marshfield Clinic, and the Minnesota Department of Health. This team of collaborators brings together unique skills and expertise to address existing and emerging occupational health and safety issues in agriculture. Of the seven projects being conducted through the UMASH Center, three are led by investigators at the National Farm Medicine Center. Those projects include:

Surveillance of Disease and Injury in Wisconsin Dairy Farmers and Workers - This surveillance project focuses on injuries and illnesses in Wisconsin dairy farmers and workers, with particular emphasis on changes in the dairy industry and the effect these changes have on injury and illness patterns.

Facilitating Return to Work - The Return to Work project will create a mechanism to bring the realities of work on the farm to the clinic in a way that the clinician can review, understand and develop a transitional plan that will safely and promptly return the worker to the workplace.

Seguridad en Las Lecherias - Immigrant Dairy Worker Health and Safety - The National Farm Medicine Center offers FREE, on-the-farm, safety and health training for your workers in Spanish and in English. This five hour, interactive training is facilitated by bilingual trainers and will help your farm comply with OSHA regulations. Topics include:
