Four CCEPH investigators including, Edward Belongia M.D., Huong Nguyen Ph.D., Joshua Petrie Ph.D. and Maria Sundaram Ph.D., attended the ‘Options for the Control of Influenza XII’ conference in Brisbane, Australia in late September. The 12th international meeting brought together academic researchers, industry representatives, and regulatory and policy experts to advance our understanding of influenza and its prevention. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has been expanded to include the latest advances in the fields of SARS-CoV-2 and RSV. MCRI scientists have presented research results at every ‘Options’ meeting during the past 15 years. For the 2024 meeting, three abstracts were presented: Huong Nguyen, Ph.D. presented vaccine effectiveness findings for the cell-culture based influenza vaccine (Flucelvax) during the 2023-24 season. Joshua Petrie, Ph.D. presented results from a study of RSV infections over two years in a Marshfield community cohort of children and adults. Maria Sundaram, Ph.D. reported the risk of RSV infection in high-risk adults over five seasons.
