Bio: Dr. Johnson has a biomedical engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis where the human genome project was centered and many of the machine learning algorithms to query the genome came out of, called computational molecular biology, and could be very useful in querying our datasets.  He also has a degree in philosophy-neuroscience-psychology from Washington University where it centered on cognitive science processes for humans and computers.  This background has served him well for DDSim and EDental guides.  He also has a PhD in neuroscience and oral biology where he worked on voltage sensitive dyes to image brain processing, electrophysiology to record peripheral nerves, and intranasal delivery to image transport of small molecules along nerve pathways to orofacial structures.  Since at HealthPartners, he has been on several projects.  First, DDSim obviously.  Second, E-Dental guides which is a clinical decision support software that can hook into Health Information Exchanges (HIE), providing medical information tailored to dentistry.  Third, TMD PACT which is an enhanced self-care for TMD patients provided through a health coach and an online self-instruction software.  Fourth, several data mining projects.  Fifth, National Dental PBRN studies in-office such as cracked tooth study.

Objectives:
1.    Describe how granular dental diagnosis codes can be used to improve dental education.
2.    Explain how linking medical and dental records can improve dental care.
3.    Discuss the importance of usability when developing clinical software.
