Deanna Cole is a Research Studies Manager in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH). As the Research Studies Manager, her role is to promote and create opportunities for research within the Institute and she is a critical member of the research management team. Deanna is responsible for supervising staff and addressing research issues within the department. Additionally, she participates in the development and implementation of high priority departmental projects such as strategic planning, employee hire and mentoring, performance improvement, quality assurance, monitoring, auditing, budget preparation and financial analysis of costs, and compliance.
Deanna began as a Research Coordinator in CCEPH prior to taking on her role as Manager. She feels that starting as a coordinator in this department prior to becoming the manager really gave an advantage to her work and is a key piece to her success as she facilitates and maintains the mission of CCEPH.
Prior to Deanna’s work in CCEPH, she was involved in research that dates back to the start of her undergraduate program. She started in a microbiology lab working with enterococcus faecalis. She presented a poster on the analysis of enterococcus faecalis isolate containing pheromone-responsive plasmids encoding vancomycin resistance and bacteriocin production. After graduation, Deanna began work at Covance, which is a clinical trials facility. Deanna has been with CCEPH since 2007.
