Win free tractor rollbar at Farm Technology Days, July 10-12
McMillan-Warner Mutual Insurance Company, in partnership with the National Farm Medicine Center, will give away a free tractor rollover protective structure (ROPS) at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, July 10-12, near Marshfield. Register at the National Farm Medicine Center Farm Safety and Rescue Area, located at the north end of Tent City. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 12. The winner need not be present.
One lucky tractor owner will get the free ROPS, and all who register will be enrolled in the Farm Center’s Wisconsin ROPS Rebate Program. The program reimburses owners up to 70 percent (maximum of $865) toward the total cost of purchasing, shipping and installing individual ROPS. In addition, the partnership with McMillan-Warner Mutual Insurance Company qualifies any McMillan-Warner Mutual Policyholder for an additional 30 percent reimbursement (maximum of $350) for the remaining retrofit costs.
Tractor overturns are the leading cause of farm-related deaths in the U.S. A ROPS, when used with a seatbelt, is 99 percent effective in preventing injury or death in the event of an overturn.
The National Farm Medicine Center established the program in 2013 with philanthropic support from the Auction of Champions, and has installed nearly 220 ROPS. All Wisconsin farmers are eligible for the program. If unable to attend Farm Technology Days, simply apply for a ROPS via the hotline, 1-877-767-7748 (1-877-ROPSR4U), or the Web site, www.ropsr4u.com.
The Farm Safety and Rescue Area will feature two ROPS demonstrations: a tractor rollover rescue (conducted by Pittsville Fire Department) and a tractor rollover simulator (provided by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture). Why retrofit? This 90-second NFMC video (http://bit.ly/2HFlay8) tells the realistic story of a teenage tractor operator whose tractor tips over during haying.
