Neel Shimpi, B.D.S, Ph.D., associate research scientist at the Center for Oral and Systemic Health at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, led many initiatives as the chair of the national Dental Informatics Working Group at the American Medical Informatics Association conference held Nov. 16-20 in Washington, D.C.

As a subcommittee of the American Medical Informatics Association, the Dental Informatics Working Group has specific interests in dental informatics and coordinates communication with other health care and informatics specialties to better improve all health care applications. 

“This confer​ence was an exciting place for our working group to get together and continue to work on impacting our field," Dr. Shimpi said.

On Sunday, Nov. 17, Dr. Shimpi led the Dental Informatics Working Group business meeting. The keynote speaker was Alexander Alekseyenko, Ph.D., an associate professor of Public Health Sciences at Medical University of South Carolina. The business meeting was sponsored by FraudLens.Inc.

The next day, Dr. Shimpi presented a poster with Karmen S. Williams, adjunct faculty at Indiana University-Purdue University, on behalf of the working group. The objective was to gain perspective of the Dental Informatics Working Group membership and its impact on the field of dentistry, dental informatics and dental research.
