Statement

Dr. (McLean) Nguyen is an epidemiologist with focus on infectious diseases and vaccine effectiveness, immunogenicity, safety, promotion, and policy. The majority of her research is on influenza, addressing issues relating to prior vaccination history and vaccine effectiveness, both clinically and immunologically. More recently, her research has expanded to include assessment of SARS-CoV-2, RSV, and other respiratory viruses: transmission in households, incidence in a community cohort, and COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness. Her research also includes improving health of pregnant people and their infants, promoting adolescent vaccinations, lyme disease, and acute gastroenteritis.

From 2008-2012, Dr. Nguyen worked in the Division of Viral Diseases at CDC. She was involved in multiple studies and outbreak investigations for vaccine preventable diseases, served as a WHO consultant on polio eradication in Kenya, and served as the CDC secretariat for the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) work group on measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine.
