The past few years have witnessed a rapid growth in the field of informatics, creating new surge of activities in healthcare. Dental Informatics as a potential core discipline is yet in its infancy. Dr. Neel Shimpi, COSH Associate Scientist and the Chair of Dental Informatics Working Group (DI-WG) has been actively involved in expanding this domain.

Project Scientist attends World Workshop on Oral Medicine (WWOM) VII Intiative in Sweden
In June of 2017, Dr. Glurich accepted an invitation from the WWOM leadership to serve as section leader to the Oral Precision Medicine Workgroup. This international collaborative seeks to train young and mid-career level oral medicine practitioners and dentists on how to conduct systematic literature review that will evaluate the literature base in the Oral Medicine domain.
Low Oral Health Literacy Can Lead to Emergency Visits for Dental Care
New research has found that patients with a poor understanding of oral health go to the dentist less, and the emergency department more, for dental needs.
The research was conducted by Jeffrey VanWormer, Ph.D., and Dr. Amit Acharya from the Center for Oral and Systemic Health at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, and was recently published in the Journal of Rural Health.

Dr. Neel Shimpi, Dr. Adham Abdelrahim and Mr. Harshad Hegde presented their research from Marshfield Clinic Health System at the 47th Annual meeting of American Association of Dental Research (AADR). The AADR Annual Meeting was held in Fort Lauderdale, FL from March 21-2 4, 2018.
COSH Welcomes Kelly Schroeder, Dental Hygienist-Research, to the Team
Kelly Schroeder joined the Center for Oral and Systemic Health on March 14 as a Dental Hygienist- Research. She brings over 12 years of clinical dental hygiene experience, has a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from UW Oshkosh, a master’s degree in Dental Hygiene Public from Idaho State University.
