Dr. Wipfli's research is focused on improving the health and wellness of at-risk occupational groups. Recent studies have investigated how behavior change interventions in the workplace can improve health, wellness, and safety outcomes, along with the ways in which behavior change affects biomarkers. Examples include the role of serum serotonin in the relationship between exercise and mental health, how the stress induced cortisol response is affected by active commuting, and how blood lipids are related to changes in exercise, diet, and weight loss. Dr. Wipfli also has a strong interest in using technology for self-monitoring health and safety behaviors, and developed an iPhone app and two interactive websites along with Dr. Ryan Olson that have successfully produced changes in healthful behaviors and supervisor support. Dr. Wipfli earned a BA in Psychology and Marketing at Carthage College, a Ph.D. in Exercise Science at Arizona State University, and was the recipient of the 2009 NASPE 'Dissertation of the Year' award. He joined the Oregon Institute for Occupational Health Sciences in August 2008.
